WEDNESDAY 19th October 2016       MAGIC & RITUAL – the meaning of the Green Man. Talk by Nigel Probert, History tutor.

WEDNESDAY 9th November 2016 COCHWILLAN. Illustrated talk by Frances Lynch-Llewellyn, archaeologist & Research Fellow, Bangor University. Probably to be followed by a summer visit.

WEDNESDAY 7th December 2016 – with mince pies! THE STORY OF GELERT – New evidence from Tourists’ literature, 1770-1870.  Illustrated talk by Michael Freeman, former curator of Ceredigion Museum & Hon Research Fellow, National Library of Wales

WEDNESDAY 18th January 2017  DISCOVERING OLD HOUSES IN THEIR HISTORICAL SETTING Illustrated talk by Margaret Dunn, local historian. Probably to be followed by a summer visit.

WEDNESDAY  22nd February 2017  W J J BOLDING (1815-1899) of Norfolk – an early Victorian Artist in Wales. Illustrated talk by Richard Jefferson, retired schoolmaster & local historian

 WEDNESDAY 29th March 2017  7.00 p.m. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (all welcome) and
7.30 p.m. GLASLYN ESTUARY BRONZE AGE SHELL MIDDEN – Recent Excavation Results. Illustrated talk by Clive Hudson, local archaeologist and historian. Probably to be followed by a summer visit.

2016 Summer Programme / Rhaglen Yr Hâf

WEDNESDAY 6^th APRIL

2.00 p.m. Visit to RHOS, MINFFORDD, a 1572 dendro-dated house, an inn site by the ancient crossing of Traeth Mawr. By kind permission of Mrs Nan Griffiths who will share some of its history with us. Meet at Beddgelert main car park at 1.30 p.m. Bring indoor shoes.

THURSDAY 5^th MAY

Harold Morris, local historian, will lead a visit to the mine workings at CWM CIPRWTH & GILFACH, Cwm Pennant. Wear walking boots, bring waterproofs & a picnic. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Meet at 10.30 a.m. at the parking place where the gate is on the bridge near the top of Cwm Pennant. (NGR SH 532477)

THURSDAY 2^nd JUNE

2.00 p.m. visit to BRYN BEDD, NANTGWYNANT to enjoy the garden & for a short guided walk to illustrate the medieval origins of the landscape. Park at the house or at the corner 100 yds above it.

TUESDAY 12^th JULY

2.00 p.m. Guided visit led by Bill Jones, local archaeologist & historian, to sites in Dolwyddelan including the excavations at TAI PENAMNEN, once home to ancestors of the Wynne family of Gwydir, and FFYNNON ELEN. Bring a picnic or retire to the Elen’s Castle Hotel for refreshments. Meet at Beddgelert main car park at 1.15 p.m.

AUGUST NO MEETING

THURSDAY 8^th SEPTEMBER

2.00 p.m. visit to EISTEDDFA, Pentrefelin, former home of Sir Tom Carey-Evans of whom we heard in a winter lecture. By kind permission of Bengy Carey-Evans. Meet at Beddgelert main car park at 1.15 p.m. Bring indoor shoes.

The winter programme will start in October 2016.
